Treadmill FAQ

How does a treadmill work?

Treadmills provide the user with a moving platform in which to walk/run on; this is a running deck and belt powered by an electric motor that moves the belt from the front to the rear.

What are the benefits of using a treadmill?

There are multiple benefits in using a running treadmill; the main benefit being that it is exercise, and a step toward a healthier lifestyle. Running/walking is a huge stress reducer; releasing endorphins into the bloodstream and producing a natural high making you feel good. Running on a treadmill also reduces impact on joints compared to running on hard surfaces like pavement or road surfaces. It increases energy levels, lung capacity, bone density, and calorie burn (you will burn more calories on a treadmill than an exercise bike or rowing machine).

Which treadmill horse power is best for me?

A treadmill's continuous horsepower (CHP) is the measure of the power of a treadmill during normal and steady operation. Peak horsepower (PHP) will not provide an accurate and true overall measurement. As a general rule, the larger the motor the cooler and smoother your machine will operate. A larger motor will also be more durable and require less maintenance and provide greater longevity. A motor with a 2.0-3.0 CHP measurement is beneficial for running.

How do I perform maintenance on my new treadmill?

Please visit our equipment maintenance guide for instructions on general treadmill maintenance including lubrication. It is recommended that you apply the lubrication precedure to your treadmill every 3-6 months depending on usage, to ensure the longevity of your machine.

Exercise Bike FAQ

What is the difference between an exercise bike and a spin bike?

Spin bikes allow the rider to achieve a more aggressive riding position similar to that of a road bike, while exercise bikes have a more upright seated position. The spin bike flywheel also allows for constant pedalling which allows the rider to burn calories faster.

What is the difference between an exercise bike and a recumbent bike?

Recumbent bikes give the rider a more horizontal position. With the pedals out in front of the seat, the rider can work their glutes and legs harder than an upright bike. Recumbent bikes are generally more comfortable due to the reclined position and back support, providing great posture, and are often used by people overcoming an injury.

What makes a three piece crank better than a one piece crank?

Three piece cranks are generally stronger and more durable than one piece cranks.

Elliptical Cross Trainer FAQ

What are the benefits of using an elliptical cross trainer?

Elliptical cross trainers reduce the stress and impact on joints that are usually associated with running by providing an elliptical movement. They also require minimal coordination and focus on the larger muscle groups of your lower body, but include handlebars so you have the option to workout your chest back and arms.
